Mid-market rates vs. what you actually get
The conversion rates shown above use the mid-market rate— the real exchange rate with no markup. This is the rate banks trade at on wholesale currency markets. When you send money through a provider, the rate they offer is almost always worse: the gap between the mid-market rate and the provider's rate is their profit margin, and it's typically the largest cost of any international transfer.
On the USD → INR corridor, for example, the spread between the best and worst provider on $1,000 is roughly $37 — and the worst option is always a bank wire. Providers like Wiseuse the mid-market rate and charge a transparent percentage fee instead, while others advertise “zero fees” but hide a 1.5–3% margin in the exchange rate. The result: the “free” transfer costs $15–$30 more.
Each conversion page links directly to a live provider comparison for that corridor, ranked by how much the recipient actually gets — not by fees alone. For a deeper analysis, our data study tracked 15 providers across 10 corridors and found up to $74 in cost differences on a single $1,000 transfer.
