About the UAE Dirham

The UAE Dirham was introduced in 1973, replacing the Qatar and Dubai Riyal and the Abu Dhabi Dinar. Since 1997, the AED has been pegged to the US Dollar at 3.6725, making it one of the most stable emerging-market currencies globally.

Why AED matters for remittance

The UAE is one of the world's largest remittance-sending countries. With over 3 million Indian workers, the AED→INR corridor is among the highest-volume in global remittances. Similar large flows go to Pakistan, Philippines, and Bangladesh.
