About the British Pound Sterling
The British Pound is the world's oldest currency still in use, with origins in Anglo-Saxon England around 775 AD. It served as the world's primary reserve currency before the US Dollar took precedence after World War II. The pound survived decimalization in 1971 and remained outside the Eurozone when the UK joined the EU.
Why GBP matters for remittance
The UK hosts one of the largest Indian diaspora communities globally. Significant remittance flows from the UK to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nigeria make GBP a key corridor currency.
